Call for papers-special issue for Alzheimer\'s disease
2008-07-10 Source:Editorial Office of Journal of Chinese Clinical Medicine author:It has been estimated that the number of persons with dementia in the world will increase fourfold during the next four decades because of an increase in the number of elderly persons worldwide. The most common neurodegenerative disease, Alzheimer's disease constitutes about two thirds of cases of dementia overall. Nearly 100 years ago, Alois Alzheimer described this disease that now bears his name. As the astounding advances of biomedical science, researchers gained more and more understanding about Alzheimer's disease. The studies of genomics reveal that rare mutations in presenilin 1, presenilin 2, or the -amyloid precursor protein gene are highly penetrant causes of familial early-onset Alzheimer's disease and the apolipoprotein E 4 allele also increases the risk of late-onset Alzheimer's disease. The hunt of its pathogenesis continues, driven by the need to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The risk of Alzheimer's disease rises sharply with advancing age, and as life expectancy increases, the effect of the disorder will also increase. Journal of Chinese Clinical Medicine (JCCM) will publish a theme issue devoted to Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenarated diseases which may cause dementia by the end of the year. Contributions are welcome on any aspect of Alzheimer's disease, which might include, but are not limited to:
molecular genetics, neuropathology, and other basic scientific aspects of the disease; epidemiologic studies, etiology, prevention, diagnosis methods, treatment for cognitive deficits and non cognitive symptoms, quality of life and every aspect of the management of Alzheimer's disease;
Alzheimer's disease in developing countries;
other neurodegenerative diseases which may cause dementia: e.g. Parkinson’ disease etc.
